भारत त्योहारों की भूमि के रूप में जाना जाता है। भारतीय जीवन में हर चीज का जश्न मनाना पसंद करते हैं। देवताओं और देवी-देवताओं से लेकर संबंधों के मौसम आदि में हमने अपने जीवनकाल में अनुभव की गई हर चीज के महत्व का सम्मान करने के लिए साल में कुछ दिन समर्पित किए हैं। आज भी देश करवा चौथ के नाम से एक त्योहार मना रहा है। मिस्टिकडी की टीम आप सभी को करवा चौथ की बहुत-बहुत शुभकामनाएं देती है। करवा चौथ की परंपरा भारत में प्राचीन काल से चली आ रही है। त्योहार एक आदमी और उसकी पत्नी के बीच सेवा के संबंध का सम्मान करता है। यह त्यौहार विवाहित महिलाओं द्वारा प्रमुखता से मनाया जाता है। इस दिन विवाहित महिलाएं अपने पति के लंबे और स्वस्थ जीवन के लिए प्रार्थना करती हैं। आइए इस त्योहार से जुड़ी कुछ किंवदंतियों को सुनते हैं।
एक बार की बात है, वीरवती नाम की एक रानी थी। वीरवती के सात भाई थे और उसके सभी भाई उससे बहुत प्यार करते थे क्योंकि वह अकेली बहन थी। विवाह के बाद वीरवती ने अपने पति के लिए उपवास करके अपना पहला करवा चौथ मनाया। हालांकि, उपवास उसके लिए बहुत कठिन था क्योंकि वह इस दिन तक भोजन के बिना कभी नहीं गई थी। शाम तक वह बहुत कमजोर हो गई और बेहोश हो गई। उसके भाइयों ने उसकी पीड़ा को नहीं देखा और इसलिए उसने उसे धोखा देने का फैसला किया। उन्होंने एक पीपल के पेड़ पर एक दीपक जलाया जिसने चाँदनी का गलत प्रभाव दिया। उन्होंने उससे झूठ बोला कि चाँद ऊपर था। वीरवती ने उसका व्रत तोड़ा और उसका भोजन किया। जैसे ही उसने खाना खाया, उसे पता चला कि उसका पति मर चुका है। वह असंगत हो गई और उसने खुद को यह सोचकर दोषी ठहराया कि उसने कुछ गलत किया है। उसके दर्द ने उसे बहुत ताकत दी और वह देवी पार्वती का आह्वान करने में सक्षम थी। पार्वती ने उसे बताया कि उसे उसके भाइयों द्वारा उसका व्रत तोड़ने में धोखा दिया गया था। पार्वती ने अपनी उंगली काट दी और वीरवती को अपना कुछ खून दिया। तब वीरवती ने अपने पति के मृत शरीर पर देवी का कीमती रक्त छिड़का। इसने उन्हें जीवन में वापस लाया।
करवा चौथ का उल्लेख महाभारत की महाकाव्य कथा में भी किया गया है। पांडवों से विवाह करने वाली द्रौपदी ने अर्जुन के लिए यह व्रत रखा था। अर्जुन तपस्या के लिए निगिरियों की पहाड़ियों में गए थे। द्रौपदी ने अपनी सुरक्षा के लिए करवा चौथ का अनुष्ठान किया। कुछ अन्य किंवदंतियों का सुझाव है कि पार्वती से शादी करने के बाद शिव ने उन्हें करवा चौथ की कहानी सुनाई और पार्वती ने शिव के लिए उसी का पालन करना शुरू कर दिया
अधिकतर यह त्यौहार भारत के उत्तर-पश्चिमी भाग में मनाया जाता था। हालाँकि आज पूरा देश इसे बहुत जोश और जुनून के साथ मनाता है। इस दिन विवाहित महिलाएं सूर्योदय से लेकर चंद्रोदय तक उपवास रखती हैं। वे पूरे दिन पानी का सेवन भी नहीं करते हैं। कार्तिक माह में पूर्णिमा के बाद 4 वें दिन करवा चौथ मनाया जाता है। कई अन्य त्यौहारों की तरह, यह त्यौहार भी लुनिसोलर कैलेंडर पर आधारित होता है, जो साल में महीनों ट्रैकिंग का हिंदू तरीका है। इस दिन के लिए अनुष्ठान सूर्योदय से पहले शुरू होता है। महिलाएं सूर्योदय से पहले उठती हैं और अपनी सास द्वारा तैयार किए गए भोजन का सेवन करती हैं। इस रिवाज को सरगी के नाम से जाना जाता है। इसके बाद महिलाएं पूरे दिन उपवास रखती हैं। करवा का अर्थ होता है मिट्टी का घड़ा और चौथ का अर्थ होता है 4। बहुत सारे घरों में, महिलाएं इन मिट्टी के बर्तनों को चित्रित करती हैं और उन्हें बहुत सारे उपहारों से भर देती हैं जैसे सौंदर्य प्रसाधन, मिठाई, कपड़े का एक टुकड़ा आदि। महिलाएं दिन के दौरान अपनी गर्ल फ्रेंड से मिलती हैं और घर का काम करने से बचती हैं। शाम को महिलाएं इकट्ठा होकर एक मंडली में बैठती हैं। पूजा करवा या मिट्टी के घड़े का आदान-प्रदान करके शुरू होती है। इसके बाद महिलाएं करवा चौथ की कहानी सुनती हैं। वे साथ में गाने भी गाते हैं। बहुत सारे तरीकों से करवा चौथ भी महिलाओं को साथ लाने और उनकी दोस्ती और भाईचारे का सम्मान करने में मदद करता है। इस घटना के बाद, वे चंद्रोदय की प्रतीक्षा करते हैं। चंद्रोदय के बाद, वे चंद्रमा देवता को अपनी प्रार्थना प्रदान करते हैं और फिर एक छलनी के माध्यम से पानी से भरे बर्तन में चंद्रमा का प्रतिबिंब देखते हैं। इसके बाद, पति आगे आते हैं और अपनी पत्नियों को अपना दिन भर का उपवास तोड़ने के लिए पानी चढ़ाते हैं। इसके बाद, पूरा परिवार एक स्वादिष्ट खाने का आनंद लेने के लिए एक साथ आता है। त्योहार परिवार को एक साथ बुनाई और एक साथ जश्न मनाने में भी कार्य करता है।

This festival is majorly celebrated by married women. Married women on this day pray for their husband's long and healthy life. Let us hear a few legends associated with this festival.
Once upon a time, there was a queen named Veeravati. Veeravati had seven brothers and all her brothers loved her dearly as she was the only sister. After marriage Veeravati celebrated her 1st Karwa Chauth by fasting for her husband. However, fasting was very tough for her as she had never gone without food until this day. By evening she got very weak and fainted. Her brothers could not bear the sight of her pain and hence decided to trick her. They lit a lamp on a Pipal tree which gave a false effect of moonlight. They lied to her that the moon was up. Veeravati broke her fast and ate her meal. As soon as she ate the food she got to know that her husband was dead. She became inconsolable and blamed herself thinking she might have done something wrong. Her pain gave her immense strength and she was able to invoke Goddess Parvati. Parvati told her that she was tricked into breaking her fast by her brothers. Parvati cut her finger and gave Veeravati some of her blood. Veeravati then sprinkled the precious blood of the Goddess on her husband's dead body. This brought him back to life.
Karwa Chauth has been mentioned in the epic tale of Mahabharata as well. Draupadi who was married to Pandavas had observed this fast for Arjuna. Arjuna had gone to the hills of Nigiris for penance. Draupadi conducted the rituals of Karwa Chauth for his safety. Some other legends suggest that Shiva after getting married to Parvati narrated the story of Karwa Chauth to her and Parvati started observing the same for Shiva
Mostly this festival was celebrated in the Northwestern part of India. However today the entire country celebrates it with much vigor and passion. Married women on this day fast from sunrise to moonrise. They do not even consume water during the entire day. Karwa Chauth is celebrated on the 4th day after the full moon in the month of Kartik. Like many other festivals, this festival is also based on the lunisolar calendar which is the Hindu way of tracking months in a year. The rituals for this day starts before the sunrise. Women wake up before the sunrise and consume food prepared by their mother-in-law. This custom is known as Sargi. After this,women fast for the entire day. Karwa means a clay pot and Chauth means 4th. In a lot of households, women hand paint these clay pots and fill them with a lot of goodies like cosmetics, sweets, a piece of cloth, etc. They also dress up as brides. Women meet their girl friends during the day and refrain from doing household chores. In the evening women gather and sit in a circle. The puja starts by exchanging the Karwas or the clay pots. After this women listen to the story of Karwa Chauth. They also sing songs together. In a lot of ways Karwa Chauth also helps in bringing the women folk together and honor their friendship and sisterhood. After this event, they wait for the moonrise. Upon moonrise, they offer their prayers to the Moon Deity and then see the reflection of the moon in a vessel filled with water through a sieve. After this, the husbands come forward and offer water to their wives to break their day-long fast. After this, the whole family comes together to enjoy a delicious dinner.The festival also serves in knitting the family together and celebrating togetherness.
