क्या आप सूर्य के बिना जीवन की कल्पना कर सकते हैं? दुनिया में रहने के लिए एक अंधेरी जगह होती। सूर्य पृथ्वी पर जीवन का आधार बनाता है। सौर ऊर्जा ग्रह पृथ्वी पर होने वाली हर गतिविधि का आधार है। भारत में अनादि काल से सूर्य की पूजा की जाती है। भारत में सूर्य का सबसे लोकप्रिय नाम सूर्या है। सूर्य, सूर्य का मानवीकरण है और वैदिक काल से ही प्रमुख देवताओं में से एक माना जाता है। शास्त्रों में उनका उल्लेख इस भौतिक दुनिया (माया) का निर्माता है। कुछ लोगों का कहना है कि वह इस ब्रह्मांड या भगवान विष्णु की आंख हैं।
सूर्य ऋषि कश्यप और अदिति के पुत्र थे। कुछ विद्वानों का सुझाव है कि वह आकाश देवता द्यौस का पुत्र था। कुछ उसे ब्रह्मा का पुत्र भी मानते हैं। सूर्या को सात घोड़ों के रथ पर या सात सिर वाले एक घोड़े पर यात्रा करते हुए दिखाया गया है। ये घोड़े हमारे शरीर में 7 चक्रों और 7 इंद्रधनुष रंगों का प्रतिनिधित्व करते हैं। सूर्या को एक सारथी द्वारा सेवा दी जाती है, जिसे अरुण कहा जाता है और वह सुबह का व्यक्तित्व है। सूर्या के शानदार रेडिएशन प्रकाश के कारण उन्हें अंधेरे का विघटनकर्ता भी कहा जाता है।
सूर्या का विवाह सरन्या से हुआ जो विश्वकर्मा की बेटी थीं। उससे उसके 5 बच्चे थे। उनके बच्चे वैवास्ता मनु (पृथ्वी पर पहला व्यक्ति) यम (मृत्यु का देवता), यमी (यमुना नदी की देवी) और जुड़वाँ आशिविनकुमार (ब्रह्मांड के दिव्य चिकित्सक) थे। सूर्या की उज्ज्वल विकीर्ण रोशनी के कारण सरन्या के लिए उसके पास होना मुश्किल हो गया। वह कुछ दिनों के लिए अपने पिता के घर जाना चाहती थी। हालाँकि, यह जानकर कि सूर्या सहमत नहीं होगा, उसने उसे धोखा देने का फैसला किया। उसने उसकी एक सटीक प्रतिलिपि बनाई और उसका नाम चाया रखा। उसने चाय्या को उसकी अनुपस्थिति में उसके परिवार के साथ रहने का निर्देश दिया। सरन्या ने छोड़ दिया और चाया ने उसकी जगह ले ली। सूर्या ने अंतर को नहीं समझा और च्ये को अपनी पत्नी सरन्या माना। जल्द ही चाया ने भी सूर्या के बच्चों को बोर कर दिया। उसने मनु, शनि (ग्रह शनि का स्वामी) और ताप्ती (नदी देवी) को जन्म दिया
जब विश्वकर्मा को शनि के जन्म के बारे में पता चला तो वह चौंका। वह सरन्या का सामना करता है। सच जानने के बाद कि सरन्या ने सूर्या के घर पर उसका एक क्लोन रखा था जिससे वह बेहद निराश हो जाती है। वह अपनी बेटी को अपने घर वापस जाने के लिए कहता है।
सरन्या वापस आती है और चाया के शरीर को नष्ट कर देती है। वह फिर से सूर्या के साथ रहने लगती है। हालाँकि, वह अपने बच्चों के प्रति आंशिक थी और उसने चाया के बच्चों की उपेक्षा की। इससे शनिदेव नाराज हो गए और उन्होंने आगे बढ़कर सरन्या को पेट पर लात मार दी। सरन्या ने शनि के पैर को चोट पहुंचाई जिससे उसे चोट लगी। इससे शनि अपंग हो गया।
सूर्या सरन्या की प्रतिक्रिया पर आश्चर्यचकित था और उसने सिखाया कि वह अपने बच्चे को कैसे शाप दे सकती है। जब सूर्या उससे पूछता है, तो सरन्या उसे उसके क्लोन चिया के बारे में सच्चाई बताती है। सूर्या बेहद निराश था और गुस्से से हिंसक होकर जलने लगा। उन्होंने सरन्या को छोड़ने के लिए कहा।
सरन्या ने छोड़ दिया और घोड़ी का रूप धारण कर हिमालय में बस गई। कुछ सालों बाद जब सूर्या का गुस्सा शांत हुआ, तो उसने अपनी पत्नी की तलाश शुरू की। उन्होंने हिमालय पर जाकर सारन्या को प्रसन्न करने के लिए घोड़े का रूप धारण किया। सरन्या वापस आने और उसके साथ रहने के लिए तैयार हो गई।
वैदिक ज्योतिष में, सूर्य एक बहुत प्रमुख स्थान रखता है और इसे ग्रहों के राजा के रूप में जाना जाता है। वह जन्म कुंडली में आत्मा, आजीविका, व्यक्तित्व का प्रतिनिधित्व करता है। रामायण में, सूर्य सुग्रीव का पिता है, जो वानर राजा था जिसने राम को सीता को लंका से वापस लाने में मदद की थी। महाभारत में, सूर्य कर्ण का पिता है जो कुंती का पहला पुत्र था। कुंती को वरदान था कि वह जो भी भगवान का आह्वान करती है, वह उस भगवान के गुणों के साथ उसे एक बच्चा देगा। उसने अपने वरदान का परीक्षण करने का प्रयास किया और सूर्या का आह्वान किया। सूर्या ने तुरंत उसे अपने जैसा बेटा दिया। कर्ण एक चमत्कारी बच्चा था और संभोग के माध्यम से पैदा नहीं हुआ था। हालाँकि, कुंती को पता था कि वह किसी को भी समझाने में सक्षम नहीं होगी और इसलिए उसने डर के मारे अपने बेटे को छोड़ दिया।
सूर्य की पूजा की जाती है और उनके पास मकर संक्रांति, छठ पूजा, पोंगल जैसे त्यौहार हैं। सूर्या को समर्पित कई मंदिर हैं लेकिन सबसे प्रसिद्ध उड़ीसा का कोणार्क मंदिर है।
Can you imagine life without the Sun? The world would have been a dark place to live in. Sun forms the basis of life on Earth. Solar energy is the basis of every activity occurring on planet Earth. Sun has been worshipped since time immemorial in India. The most popular name for Sun is Surya in India. Surya is the personification of the Sun and is considered as one of the chief gods since the Vedic period. Scriptures mention him to be the creator of this physical world (Maya). Some state that he is the eye of this Universe or Lord Vishnu.
Surya was the son of sage Kashyap and Aditi. Some scholars suggest that he was the son of the sky god Dyaus. Some also consider him to be the son of Brahma. Surya is shown traveling on a chariot of seven horses or one horse with seven heads. These horses represent the 7 chakras in our body and also the 7 rainbow colors. Surya is served by a charioteer who is called Arun and is the personification of dawn. Owing to Surya‘s brilliant radiating light he is also known as the dispeller of darkness.
Surya was married to Saranya who was the daughter of Vishwakarma. He had 5 children from her. His children were Vaivasta Manu ( the first man on earth) Yam ( God of death), Yami ( goddess of river Yamuna), and the twins Ashiwinikumar ( the divine doctors of the universe). Owing to Surya’s bright radiating light it became difficult for Saranya to be near him. She wanted to go to her father's house for few days. However, knowing that Surya would not agree she decided to cheat on him. She made an exact copy of her and named her Chaya. She instructed Chaya to be there with her family in her absence. Saranya left and Chaya took her place. Surya did not understand the difference and thought of Chaya to be his wife Saranya. Soon Chaya also bore Surya's children. She gave birth to Manu, Shani (the lord of planet Saturn), and Tapti (River goddess)
When Vishwakarma got to know of Shani's birth he gets startled as all this while his daughter was staying at his home. He confronts Saranya. Upon knowing the truth that Saranya had kept a clone of hers at Surya's house he gets extremely disappointed. He tells her daughter to go back to her own house.
Saranya returns back and destroys Chaya’s body. She starts staying with Surya again. However, she was partial towards her own children and ignored Chaya's children. This angered Shani and he went ahead and kicked Saranya on her stomach. Saranya cursed Shani’s leg that hurt her. This made Shani cripple.
Surya was surprised at Saranya's reaction and taught how could she curse her own child. When Surya asks her, Saranya tells him the truth about her clone Chaya. Surya was extremely disappointed and started burning violently with rage. He asked Saranya to leave.
Saranya left and took up the form of a mare and settled in the Himalayas. After few years when Surya's anger calmed down, he started searching for his wife. He went to the Himalayas and took the form of a horse to please Saranya. Saranya agreed to come back and stay with him.
In Vedic astrology, Surya holds a very prominent position and is known to be the king of planets. He represents soul, livelihood, personality in the birth chart. In Ramayana, Surya is the father of Sugriva, the monkey king who helped Rama to get Sita back from Lanka. In Mahabharata, Surya is the father of Karna who was Kunti's firstborn son. Kunti had a boon that any God she invokes will give her a child with qualities of that God. She tried to test her boon and invoked Surya. Surya immediately gave her a son like him. Karna was a miraculous child and was not born through mating. However, Kunti knew that she will not be able to convince anyone the same and hence abandoned her son out of fear.
Surya is worshipped and has a lot of festivals like Makar Sankranti, Chath puja, Pongal dedicated to him. There are many temples dedicated to Surya however the most famous is the Konark temple of Orissa.
